Sam Altman was sacked from OpenAI, a company he helped form, by the board over a “breakdown in communications”, an internal memo said.
Less than three days after the board dismissed him, Sam Altman, the ousted CEO of the software company OpenAI, is allegedly in discussions to rejoin.
On Friday, Altman, a co-founder of the company that created ChatGPT, was fired.
Mr. Altman “was not consistently candid in his communications with the board,” according to OpenAI, which claimed the decision was made after a “deliberative review process by the board”.
According to the statement, his actions were impeding the board’s capacity to carry out its duties.
However, recent indications indicate that he could be returning soon to the business he helped build.
According to a person with knowledge of the situation, Mr. Altman has been discussing better governance mechanisms with OpenAI leaders.
Employees at the tech company may contemplate quitting if Mr. Altman is not restored by the end of the weekend, and others may join him in launching a new artificial intelligence business.
Following Mr. Altman’s exit, OpenAI president and co-founder Greg Brockman left the company.
