Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S9 series is the best Android tablet lineup available now, with excellent performance, display quality, and battery life. However, their high prices – starting from $800 for the Tab S9 to $1,200 for the Tab S9 Ultra – make them less appealing to a broader audience. Although they come with an S Pen stylus, you need to buy a keyboard cover separately to use them as laptop replacements. There are better investment options under $500 available for Android tablets.

 

Software Review

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra runs on Android 13 and provides four OS updates and five years of security updates. Samsung’s One UI allows for seamless activities when linked to a Samsung phone. You can have up to three apps tiled on the screen at once, with the option to resize and save app pairs or trios to the desktop or taskbar. The pop-up view allows you to interact with more apps by placing a floating, resizable window or video player on top of others. The included S Pen is responsive and feels natural for drawing on the screen. Samsung’s Dex software lets you use the tablet more like a traditional computer.

I dislike that the URL search box isn’t automatically highlighted when opening a new Chrome tab. Switching back to Chrome after using another program occasionally causes it to refresh, losing any unsaved work. Additionally, some apps don’t display their multipane style in DeX mode.

Hardware

The Tab S9 series has a long-lasting battery that can be shared with other compatible Galaxy devices and supports Super Fast Charging. The 120-Hz AMOLED panels are vivid and sharp. The smaller Tab S9 is perfect for playing, while the S9+ or the S9 Ultra are ideal for work-and-play. The Ultra stands out for its enormous size, but only the S9+ supports 5G connectivity. Each Tab S9 includes an IP68-rated S Pen stylus and a microSD card slot. The quad speakers produce an astounding volume of audio. Battery life is generally very good. The Tab S9 series is worth considering if you want everything, but the OnePlus Pad with a keyboard cover is a better option if you want a powerful Android tablet for work and play.
