The Most Anticipated Series in 2024
The year 2024 promises to be an exciting one for TV and streaming fans, as many new and returning shows are set to premiere across various platforms. From adaptations of bestselling books and classic movies, to original stories and spin-offs, there is something for everyone to look forward to. Here are some of the series that we are most eager to watch in 2024.
House of the Dragon (HBO Max)
House of the Dragon is the first official prequel to the hit fantasy series Game of Thrones, based on the book Fire & Blood by George R.R. Martin. The show will explore the history of House Targaryen, the dragon-riding dynasty that ruled Westeros for centuries before the events of Game of Thrones. The show will feature a star-studded cast, including Paddy Considine, Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, and Rhys Ifans. The show is expected to debut in early 2024, and will consist of 10 episodes.
Interview with the Vampire (AMC+)
Interview with the Vampire is a new adaptation of the classic novel by Anne Rice, which was previously made into a movie starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in 1994. The show will follow the vampire Lestat de Lioncourt, who recounts his life story to a young reporter, from his transformation in 18th century France, to his travels across the world, to his encounters with other vampires and supernatural beings. The show will star Sam Reid as Lestat, Jacob Anderson as Louis, and Jessica Raine as Claudia. The show will premiere on AMC+ in mid-2024, and will have eight episodes.
Agatha: Darkhold Diaries (Disney+)
Agatha: Darkhold Diaries is a spin-off of the Marvel series WandaVision, which introduced the character of Agatha Harkness, played by Kathryn Hahn. The show will explore the origins and adventures of Agatha, a powerful witch who has been meddling with magic and mischief for centuries. The show will also feature the Darkhold, a mysterious book of dark magic that Agatha stole from Wanda at the end of WandaVision. The show will debut on Disney+ in late 2024, and will have six episodes.
The Regime (HBO)
The Regime is a new drama series from the creators of Succession, Jesse Armstrong and Adam McKay. The show will star Kate Winslet as Margaret Thatcher, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, who led the country from 1979 to 1990. The show will depict the rise and fall of Thatcher’s controversial and influential regime, as well as her personal and political relationships with her allies and enemies, such as Ronald Reagan, Mikhail Gorbachev, and Queen Elizabeth II. The show will premiere on HBO in early 2024, and will have 10 episodes.
The Sympathizer (HBO Max)
The Sympathizer is an adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Viet Thanh Nguyen, which tells the story of a half-French, half-Vietnamese spy who works for the communist regime in Vietnam, while posing as a loyal aide to a South Vietnamese general in America. The show will explore the themes of identity, loyalty, betrayal, and war, as well as the history and culture of Vietnam and its diaspora. The show will star Robert Pattinson as the unnamed narrator, and will be directed by Park Chan-wook, the acclaimed filmmaker behind Oldboy and The Handmaiden. The show will launch on HBO Max in mid-2024, and will have six episodes.
